After a big controversy… New developments between Aouar and the Algerian national team

Aouar avoided revealing the truth about recent news that he had changed his sports nationality to represent the colors of his country of origin.

According to Algerian Radio, all that is being circulated about the prospective of duo Houssem Aouar and Rayan Aït-Nouri to represent Algerian national team is not official.

France 24 announced days ago that the Olympique Lyonnais midfielder and Wolverhampton defender would represent Algeria, deliberately finalizing the procedure for their acquisition of Algerian citizenship.

On Friday, through Algerian radio station, Aïssa Madni stated that nothing is official, despite the optimistic statements made by Djamel Belmadi, The Desert Warriors’ head coach, who had previously suggested that Aouar had agreed to represent The Greens.

“According to the official information we have received, the Algerian Federation has not received any official document, neither from Aouar nor from Aït-Nouri,” the well-known Algerian media said.

He added: “In order to play for The Greens, players must change their sports nationality, which has not happened until now, and the Algerian Federation has no information about what is circulating recently.”

Recently, Belmadi became willing to strengthen his squad with young dual-nationals, having made it impossible to continue with the same formation since winning the African Cup of Nations in 2019.

On the other hand, Houssem Aouar avoided revealing the truth about recent news that he had changed his sports nationality to represent the colors of his country of origin.

During his participation in the press conference, which preceded his team’s match against Marseille on Sunday, “League 1”, Aouar was asked about the fact that he had obtained an Algerian passport, in preparation for joining Djamel Belmadi’s men.

The Lyon star refused to answer the journalist’s question, merely stressing that his current focus was on his club game, saying: “I’m here to talk about the Marseille game and just, nothing else.”

Aouar appeared in 59 minutes of a friendly, ending with France beating Ukraine by 7-1 in October 2020, after which the Blues manager Didier Deschamps did not call him out, sparking controversy over his future.
