Red Bull Salzburg 1:2 Chelsea: The Blues make it through to the knockout
A win over RB Salzburg secures the qualification the last 16 of the Champions League
Chelsea have secured a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. The Blues, who won the tournament two seasons back, were too strong in Austria for Red Bull Salzburg, as they beat the hosts by two goals to one.
For Chelsea, after two victories on AC Milan, it was the third victory in a row in the group phase. Graham Potter’s team collected 10 points after five rounds. Salzburg, AC Milan and Dinamo Zagreb compete for the second ticket from Group E to qualify to the knockout stages.
Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic put Chelsea ahead halfway through the first half. The midfielder shot the ball from the edge of the box send it to the upper left corner of the hosts goal.
After half time, the initiative was in the early stages at Red Bull Salzburg, which passed through Chukwubuike Adamu in the 49th minute. The striker was able to score after a good advance of Maximilian Wöber, to level the score 1-1.
Chelsea was already assured of the qualification to the next round thanks to Kai Havertz. The German took the ball from the turn in the 64th minute and shot with a nice touch from the bottom of the bar to put the blues in front again with what is proved at the end of the game as the winning goal.
