Ex-Barcelona manager nears Villarreal’ job.
Villarreal choose Quique Setién to replace Emery
The Cantabrian coach will replace Emery on the bench
Quique Setién will be the new coach of Villarreal and will replace Unai Emery, who choses to depart to Aston Villa on Monday after the Premier League team paying the six million euro of the release clause in his contract with the Yellow Submarine.
In this way, the Cantabrian technician, who landed in the town this Monday, will take over the yellow bench immediately after reaching an agreement in principle according to the club’ chairman, Fernando Roig.
Setién is a 64-year-old veteran coach with extensive experience in Spanish football.
After managing teams such as Betis, Las Palmas, Lugo and Racing Santander, his last experience on the bench was at Barcelona.
Now he will have the mission to channel the Villarreal project that has been disrupted after the unexpected departure of Emery.
