Sensational De Bruyne sends Manchester City to the top spot in the Premier League
Man City emerged victorious in King Power Stadium thanks to a brilliant free kick from the Belgian
Manchester City moved up to the top spot of the Premier League standings, one point above Arsenal, after Kevin De Bruyne’s sensational free kick which made the difference against a resilient Leicester City side in the opening game of match week 14.
It was a determined performance by Leicester, who spent much of the game on the back foot but came close to score an equalizer when Ederson – with some help from the bar – kept out a wonderful volley from Youri Tielemans.
The key moment of the game came in the 49th minute, when Kevin De Bruyne produced a stunning strike from a free-kick, 30 yards out and well-placed right in the top corner of Danny Ward’s goal.
De Bruyne’s goal was his 25th from outside the penalty area in the Premier League. Since his debut for Manchester City in September 2015, it’s at least four more than any other player.
The Belgian has scored four goals from direct free-kicks since 2015-16, only James Ward-Prowse (14), James Maddison (8), Willian and Philippe Coutinho (both 8) have more.
City’ playmaker (60 goals) equals David Silva (60) in joint-fourth in Manchester City’s leading Premier League goal scorers. The top three are Sergio Agüero (184), Raheem Sterling (91) and Yaya Toure (62).
Manchester City now are on the top of the league with 29 points, with one game more than the nearest rival, Arsenal (28), while Leicester conceded their 8th defeat, to stay at the 17th position with 11 points from 13 games so far this season
