Blow for England and Chelsea as Ben Chilwell suffers from injury during the Blues 2-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb
The left back leaves Stamford Bridge on crutches after the game against Dinamo Zagreb
Chelsea rounded off their Champions League group stage with a 2-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb – but there was bad news as Ben Chilwell suffered from a hamstring injury in the dying moments of the game.
Those bad news are not only for Chelsea, as Gareth Southgate will be sweating now over the fitness of the English left back before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, didn’t provide any positive updates regarding the player’s current conditions, as the Blues manager described Chilwell’s injury “it’s not positive at the moment”
“Not great. Obviously, when he pulls up like that it’s a concern. Obviously, we need to scan it but it’s not positive at the moment.” Potter responds to a question about the injury.
“It’s a blow for us on an otherwise positive evening. To see him pull up like that, it’s not a great sight. So, fingers crossed when we get it scanned it isn’t too bad. It can be not as severe, but we have to cross our fingers at the moment. But clearly, we’re disappointed.” adds Potter. “I spoke to him briefly. He just felt something as he was setting off. He is disappointed and upset.”
when the manager was asked about the way he managed the fitness and playing time of Ben, since he was coming from a bad injury in the last season: “There was a thought he could play tonight and have enough time to recover for the weekend. So, we’ve tried to manage him, but he’s never played three games in a week. He’s had to have a build-up that I think has been good for him. That’s why it’s very frustrating. It’s a blow for us and a blow for him.”
